Craniosacral Massage for Acupuncture in Michigan
What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral therapy focuses on the subtle rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid throughout the craniosacral system, which includes the central nervous system and the delicate membranes that surround it. Craniosacral treatment is aimed at providing release of membrane tensions, fascial restrictions and establishing a balanced craniosacral rhythm. This allows cerebrospinal fluid to flow freely nourishing the brain and spinal cord. Cranial bones, their sutures (where cranial bones meet) and the rest of the body will achieve greater alignment.
This type of therapy taps into the inherent wisdom of the body which allows it to heal itself where possible. It is a gentle and non-invasive therapy and has been used to treat adults as well as infants and young children.
As with most therapies, there are some medical conditions that are contra indicated and craniosacral should not be recommended. These include conditions where a variation and/or slight increase in intracranial pressure would cause instability. Acute aneurysm, cerebral hemorrhage or other pre-existing severe bleeding disorders are examples of conditions that could be affected by small intracranial pressure changes.
It is advisable to consult your medical practitioner before embarking on a course of treatment.
What Conditions are Treated with Craniosacral Therapy?
By normalizing the environment around the brain and spinal cord and enhancing the body’s ability to self-correct, Craniosacral Therapy is able to alleviate a variety of dysfunctions, from chronic pain and sports injuries to stroke and neurological impairment. It is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease and alleviate a wide range of specific medical conditions including:
- Chronic back and neck pain
- Chronic sinus issues
- Muscle tension
- Chronic Fatigue
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Emotional difficulties
What Happens during a Session?
Craniosacral sessions usually take place in a quiet, private setting.
During the session the patient lies quietly on a treatment table, fully clothed, while contact is made at selected points around the body. This light contact consists of gentle hand or fingertip pressure.
Craniosacral therapy does not use forceful thrusts or sudden pressure as in some types of chiropractic or other bodywork.
Patients often go into a state of deep relaxation, or may sleep during the session.
Relieving Fibromyalgia Pain with Craniosacral Therapy
Fibromyalgia has been a growing condition in the past few years. Many patients who complain about symptoms of fibromyalgia mention having: weakness, stiffness, chronic pains, and sleeping issues.
For those suffering from the everyday pain of fibromyalgia, Craniosacral Therapy may be just what you are looking for. Craniosacral therapy is highly regarded by many fibromyalgia sufferers who find the therapy treatments to be very good at reducing their symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome. With the hands-on approach taken by CST, tension that resides deep in the body is released and with this release comes a better flow of cerebrospinal fluid which can then reach more areas of the body and relieve fibromyalgia pain and increase overall well-ness.
